Arizona Bike Trails

Ask anyone who moved to Arizona from another state why they moved here, and most will talk about how beautiful the state is and how many outdoor activities you can do all year long. One of Arizona’s more well-kept secrets is how amazing our bike trails are. What’s more impressive is that many of these great trails are right in our backyards!  Check out Arizona’s must-ride bike trails you’ve never heard of, then grab a bike trail map and start exploring these gems!

67 Avenue Trail – Avondale

This bike trail is a nice, easy ride for those that are looking for a quick bike ride. It’s a concrete path, so it’s not very technical for the novice rider that just wants a nice, leisurely trip. It’s a multi-use trail, so expect to be accompanied by walkers and skaters; a great way to meet your neighbors! The path parallels N. 67th Avenue in Glendale and follows the edge of the Thunderbird Conservation Park.

Estrella Mountain Regional Park – Goodyear

This regional park offers bike trails for all levels, so it’s a must-visit for those who live in the west valley. There are three competitive tracks to use; all the competitive tracks are primarily used by Mountain Bicyclists, but are also used from time-to-time by cross country runners and "endurance" horse riders. The tracks are designed for high speeds, racing events and fun. They feature steep climbs, and drops, fast corners, twists and turns and rugged rocky terrain. If that sounds a little too hardcore for you, the park also offers over 33 miles of trails for mountain biking. Trails range in length from 2.3 miles to 8.8 miles and range in difficulty from easy to strenuous. Riding trails are easily accessible via trailheads located at the arena and amphitheater. A mountain bike trail brochure that categorizes trail difficulty is available at the park office.

Desert Trails Bike Park - Mesa

Located on the northeast corner of Recker and McDowell, Desert Trails Park is one of the newest City of Mesa parks, opened in November 2014.  The Park includes:

• 35 acres

• A series of trails, a pump track and kids' skills track

• Two shaded picnic ramadas (non-reservable)

• Restroom facilities

• 30-spot parking lot

They have their own Facebook page if you want to check out some great pictures of the trails or check out the video. Be sure to download the map and trails rules PDF so you know what to expect when you arrive. The kids will love this one!

Arizona Canal Path – Peoria

Technically, this path serves Peoria, Glendale, Phoenix, Scottsdale and the Salt River Pima–Maricopa Indian Community, but one of its more popular trail entries is in Peoria. The Arizona Canal Path is one of the longest multi-use trails in Maricopa County. The trail is 11.7 miles and is moderately trafficked. It’s good for all skill levels so whether you’re a novice or a thrill seeker, this trail has something for you. Just keep your eyes open; the dogs and horses are also able to use this trail.

Verrado Lost Creek Trail – Buckeye

There are more than 21 miles of paths and trails where residents and visitors in the Phoenix and Buckeye region can get away from it all. Miles of pathways span the community, connecting neighborhoods to one another for easy walking, running, or biking. The paths are designed for both the beginner riders to advanced mountain bikers. If you live in the Buckeye area, this is a must-ride trail to ride!

Papago Park – Phoenix

While Papago Park is very well-known for its hiking, a well-kept secret is that it’s also great for mountain biking! Papago’s desert trails are generally smooth, easy treks with little elevation gain, making it a great place to hone your mountain biking skills. An added bonus is the close proximity to the Phoenix Zoo and the Desert Botanical Garden. Try it out the next time you’re looking for an all-day adventure on your bike!

Arizona has so many bike trials and paths to choose from, but these are wonderful for those looking to get away and enjoy the great outdoors on their bikes without having to travel too far.
