Best places to watch Arizona sunsets

Arizona has some of the most spectacular sunsets in the world. The yellows, oranges, pinks and purples are breathtaking, and with an average of 211 sunny days in Phoenix per year, you have plenty of opportunity to watch the sunset in some spectacular places without roaming far from home.

Papago Park

Located on Galvin Parkway in Phoenix, Papago Park is known for its hiking trails, proximity to Phoenix Zoo, and the infamous Hole-in-the-Rock formation. It also happens to be known by Phoenix locals for its spectacular sunset views. Hike up inside the Hole-in-the-Rock formation to watch the sun set over downtown Phoenix and the desert oasis below. The park gates close around 7 p.m., so plan your hike accordingly so you don’t miss the sunset!

North Mountain Park

Head to 7th Street between Thunderbird and Peoria and find a place to park before taking a short walk for a great vantage point. If you want to get a parking spot, either park at the Visitor's Center (north of the Pointe Hilton), or the picnic area off Peoria. You can hike up the back trail to Shaw Butte or take the longer trail up North Mountain; either will provide breathtaking sunsets!

Four Seasons Resort

Prefer to watch the sunset without hiking or perhaps with a drink in your hand?  Check out the Four Seasons Resort in Troon North. The large, elevated patio (which is 1,000 feet higher than downtown Phoenix) offers picture-perfect views of the sunset; a spectacular show every night!

Compass Grill

How about dinner to go along with that gorgeous sunset? You can take full advantage of the 360-degree view at Arizona’s only revolving rooftop restaurant, dining while delighting in the beautiful color-painted sky. Located at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Phoenix.

Goldfield Ghost Town

This abandoned old mining town, which has been refurbished as a tourist attraction, includes a mine tour, rides and shops. Located in Apache Junction, many people know the grounds as a perfect place to watch the sun set over the Superstition Mountains.

Tres Rios

Although this little spot is better known for its stargazing, the sunsets are fantastic as well. Located in Avondale, you can hike up Monument Hill to the top overseeing the Valley. Once you watch the sunset, you can always hang out and do some stargazing too!

Elements on Camelback Mountain

No, not another hike! This restaurant offers stunning views as well as a fine dining experience in sight of Phoenix’s iconic Camelback Mountain landmark. Located in Scottsdale, this is a favorite among both locals and tourists.

Desert Botanical Gardens

A must-see in Phoenix, but no better time than at sunset to wrap up your day. Explore the beautiful Desert Botanical Garden, then watch the sun set against a backdrop of desert flora and red-rock buttes. Absolutely gorgeous.

White Tank Regional Park

Located in Waddell, the park is far away from city lights and other distractions so you can fully enjoy a peaceful and quiet sunset. This is a popular yet well-kept secret among the locals, who go to the park to enjoy the views far away from the bustle of the city.
