2017 Cactus League Information | Arizona Spring Training 2017

Spring training season is one of the busiest times of year for Arizona and with good reason! The Cactus League alone has ten spring training locations across Maricopa county and every year, thousands of spring visitors, or “snowbirds” pour into Arizona to catch a few ballgames to watch their favorite teams play.

Why is spring training so popular in Arizona?

The Cactus League has long been a cherished Arizona tradition for locals and tourists alike. During this time of year in Arizona, pleasant temperatures and endless sunshine complement the amazing experience that only spring training offers. Temperatures this time of year are in the low 80’s; a far cry from the snow and sleet many winter visitors left back home! Baseball fans get to meet their favorite players while enjoying quality time with your family and friends. The food at these stadiums are astounding, and the overall atmosphere is fun yet laid back.

How to get the most out of spring training in Arizona

Spring training is THE activity to do in Arizona in the spring, but to get the most out of it, it’s good to be prepared, so here are a few tips to get the most out of your spring training games:

1. Get an autograph – one of the greatest aspects of spring training is that you can see your favorite players up close and personal; take advantage of this and get yourself an autograph!  There are a few tips to keep in mind to help you score an autograph or two. First, be in the right location to get an autograph. Some people swear that being near the dugout before the game is a good spot. Others wait by the team bus, and still other fans say catching them as they head to the clubhouse works every time. Scope out a good spot to get that autograph. Of course, be respectful of players if they’re “in the zone” and clearly don’t want to be disturbed. Ask for an autograph and even if they say no, or not now, thank them by name and let them know you’d love an autograph when they have time.

2. Bring sunscreen – maybe 80 degrees doesn’t sound that warm, but the Arizona sun shines almost every day of the year, so sunscreen is a must! Many a vacation has been ruined by one day of unprotected skin in the sun. Bring sunscreen (and use it!), wear sunglasses and bring a hat. You’ll be comfortable and can enjoy the entire game.

3. If you’re coming in from out of town, rent early – that goes for both lodging and rental cars. Hotels and rental properties near the stadium fill up fast, so to get the best deal, book early. Same with car rentals. Plan ahead and make those reservations now!

4. Buy tickets early – sure, you might be able to walk up and get last-minute tickets to games, but depending on the team, most good tickets may be sold out. Thinking you’d like to pop by and see the White Sox play?  Sorry, but every visitor from Chicago has beat you to the punch. Plan early and buy your 2017 Cactus League tickets online so you don’t end up disappointed.
